1. police report later
2. parts x-rayed
3. hours in the ER
leaves me with a concussion, fucked shoulder & wrist (yay sling for 1-2 weeks!)
The cab hit me directly on my skull and shoulder and threw me off my bike on the ground. I know many people find it “too hot”, “unhip”, or just plain don’t understand, but let’s all give praise to the bike helmet that quite rightly saved me today in bike vs Chicago cab.

Clipless pedals for the first time and I have a feeling I won’t be going back to cages anytime soon. Very lucky to have such a wonderful cycling sensei. :) (Taken with Instagram)

Cyclist “die-in” outside the offices of London’s biggest minicab company, Addison Lee, in response to their chief executive, John Griffin’s, comments that cyclists are to blame for road traffic accidents and that they should be expected to pay “road tax”. Feel free to send obvious rebuttals directly, @AddisonLeeCabs.

After a little practice with the short skirt one becomes really graceful, and it is safe to say that the long traveling skirt has been banished from New England forever!
This article from 1898 describes the rapid rise of more comfortable and practical women’s dresses and skirts during the bicycle craze. It’s a really neat piece of history! For a readable version, go here. (via nirak)

What drivers can do to be more cyclist aware. «
…on a motoring website, no less. Preaching to the converted, but this is an article worth passing on to anyone you’d rather not be run over by. And remember, respect needs to be earned - the rules apply to us too. Ride safe.
Highlights:
- By law, a bicycle is a vehicle, so treat it like one.
- It’s your responsibility to avoid hitting the cyclist, not the responsibility of the cyclist to avoid getting hit by you.
- When overtaking a cyclist you’re required to give them as much room as you would a car.
- They have as much right as you do to take up the entire lane.
- Cyclists should never cycle in the gutter.
- It’s not at all illegal for cyclists to filter on the left or right of lanes.
- Get on a bike!

We returned to a garage to see if we could get a good view of Columbia’s “skyline” while scouting locations for an engagement shoot. We ended up finding a K-9 training course on the top floor as well. Clearly a success.
Here’s Dylan cycling for a test shot.
